Recycling

Recycling

60% of all waste in the company is diverted and recycled (2x’s the national average). In addition, all of our cardboard packaging and hang tags are 100% recyclable and are made of recycled materials. The etnies’ Jameson 2 Eco is made using recycled plastic bottles as well as select outerwear jackets with ThirtyTwo.

Initiatives that we’ve instituted as a result of our commitment to recycling and reusing materials:

  • Recycling Program

Sole Technology’s internal recycling program has made strides reaching a 60% diversion rate, which exceeds California’s average of 50%. All boxes and cartons use recycled materials and have a minimum of 70% recycled content.

  • Hard-to-Recycle Items

Our Waste Diversion Materials Recovery program features an in-house recycling center and an employee committed strictly to recycling efforts and ensures that batteries, light bulbs and electronics are recycled with a verified and audited domestic e-waste recycler and offers employees a recycle drop for these products.

  • Recycled Materials

52% of our office supplies contain eco-friendly elements, paper usage has reduced by 25% and a preferred eco-product purchasing program has been implemented. When possible our Research and Design team incorporates sustainable materials into product offerings. Here is our favorite example on the use recycled materials:

Ever wonder where old worn out bike tires, used rubber gloves and plastic bottles go to die? etnies is reincarnating them into Jameson 2 Eco shoes. The bike tires and used rubber gloves are recycled to create the shoes’ outsole and plastic bottles are used in the making of their PET shoe laces.

For every pair of Jameson 2 Eco shoes sold, etnies will plant a tree in Costa Rica’s rainforest to help impact climate change and reduce carbon in our atmosphere. Much of the earth’s rainforests have been destroyed over the last 80 years, and etnies is going to help reverse deforestation one pair of shoes at a time.
